Accessibility Statement for Canon Europe website as of July 2020

Canon’s commitment to accessibility

Canon Europe is committed to making our websites, apps and digital services as accessible as possible. Our aim is to combine compelling user experiences with high levels of accessibility and inclusivity, so everyone can use our digital services, whatever their abilities or disabilities. This is part of our dedication to seeing all people, regardless of culture, customs, language or race, living and working together for the common good – this is our corporate philosophy of kyosei, a deeply held belief which is at the heart of everything we do. Our ongoing site development, app development and content creation is guided by best-practice accessibility guidelines such as WCAG 2.0 and ISO 30071-1.

Adapt your experience to your needs

While this site has been created to be usable ‘as is’, some people are likely to get the most accessible experience by customising their computer to suit their individual needs – for example: to get the site spoken to them, to change its colour-scheme, or increase the size of its text.

If that sounds like it would be useful to you, we recommend you visit:

BBC My Web, My Way or WAI’s Better Web Browsing: Tips for Customizing your Computer to read or watch videos of how these customisations (achieved by using accessibility features already on your computer, phone or tablet, or through installing assistive technologies) might suit you.

Improving accessibility on our site

Through user-testing of our site with people with disabilities, we are aware that there are accessibility improvements that our site could benefit from, and we have a plan in place to implement these. We are currently working to fix the following issues:

  • We are increasing the number of our videos that provide captions, transcripts or audio-description. If you have any difficulty using our videos, please contact us at: accessibility@canon-europe.com.
  • We are reviewing the alt-text (description) of the site and correcting any discrepancies.
  • We are working to improve the consistency of our site navigation, and the visibility of the boxed line highlighting which element on the page has been selected.
  • We are reviewing the accessibility of our in-page navigation, and working on including skip navigation links.
  • We are working on improving the consistency of labelling in our navigation, and improving the information on some of our links to make them more understandable to screen reader users.
  • We are working on improving the error messages on our input fields on the support and contact us pages. If you have difficulty using our forms, please contact us at accessibility@canon-europe.com.
  • We are working on improving the way the camera and lens selectors are operable by keyboard.
  • The cost indicator in the camera comparison tool uses colour to provide information. We are looking at other ways of providing that information for those who have difficulty with colour perception. We are also reviewing the text and background colours used on our site, to ensure that they are easily readable, and ensuring that all text can be enlarged in browsers.
  • Some users may find they need some help in understanding some of the elements on product pages. We are looking into providing instructions to make these elements clearer.
  • In some places, screen readers might not pronounce words that are not in the main language of the page correctly. We are working to improve this.
  • Some of the features of the site use WAI-ARIA to provide an accessible experience. All modern computers, tablets and phones include browsers that support WAI-ARIA. However, older Android 4.1 devices do not. If your phone or tablet uses Android 4.1, and you have any difficulties using the site, we recommend you update the operating system on your device to a more recent one.

If any of these current limitations prevent you from getting the information or service you need from our site, please contact us on accessibility@canon-europe.com and we will be happy to help you.

Please let us know if you have difficulties using this site

We are always looking to improve the accessibility of our site, so if you find anything on the site difficult to use please let us know at accessibility@canon-europe.com. To help us understand your difficulty quickly, it would help us if you provide the information advised in ‘Contacting Organisations about Inaccessible Websites’ in your request.

All constructive feedback regarding the accessibility or usability of our site is welcome and will be carefully considered.

This accessibility statement was last updated in July 2020 and follows the advice on accessibility statements in International Standard ISO 30071-1.
